Georgia Work Ready Initiative
The Georgia Work Ready Initiative that was announced by Governor Perdue in August 2006. The purpose of this initiative is to provide:
○ Employers skilled workers based upon a set of recognized work ready skill standards;
○ Jobseekers with an opportunity to enhance their employability by obtaining a work ready credential that is both transferable and transportable;
○ Industry clusters a pipeline of trainable workers who posses the foundation skills necessary to train on-the-job for technical occupations.
This voluntary initiative is in partnership with the Georgia Chamber of Commerce and is being coordinated by the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development. It is anticipated that supportive systems of this effort will be in place and operational by January 2007.
Governor’s Office of Workforce Development Website
The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development website (www.gowfd.org) and the Georgia Work Ready website (www.gaworkready.org) are active and operational.
Workforce Development Strategic Mapping effort
The results from the Workforce Development Strategic Mapping Survey are being complied and will be available on the GOWFD website.
Ms Lyons also provided a review of the six working drafts that compromise the core of the Workforce Development Strategic Plan. During this Board meeting, each of the six committees conducted a review of the drafts and presented comments and suggestions for improvement to the full membership. These comments were recorded and will be incorporated into the final draft of the plan. The strategic plan will also be presented to the Governors’ senior staff for additional comment. It is anticipated that the final approval of the strategic plan will occur at the February 2007 Board Meeting.
The meeting was adjourned.
